One document, two teams

I would like to share an excel file between two separate companies/channels within Teams.

My team needs to be able to access and edit the document, the second team (our client) only needs to be able to view the document.

What is the best way to show our client the document in real time?
Can a document reside in two separate channels at the same time?

If so, how?

    Hi Kroy,

Thank you for reaching out. My name is Furkaan, a user just like you. I’d be happy to help you with your concerns. No, a single Excel file can't reside in two separate Teams channels simultaneously. However, there are a couple of ways to achieve your goal of sharing the file with different access levels for each team:

    Share via OneDrive and Teams:

Save your Excel file to your OneDrive. In Teams, navigate to the Files section and access your OneDrive. Right-click on the file and select Share. Enter the email addresses of your team members. Choose Can edit for them. For your client, choose Can view. This option allows them to see the latest version of the file but not edit it. Click Share.

    Use SharePoint and Teams:

Upload your Excel file to a SharePoint document library with the appropriate permissions set for each team. In the first Team channel, click the + button and choose the "SharePoint" app. Select "From a link" and paste the link to your SharePoint document library. Repeat the process for the second Team channel, but ensure team members only have view permissions within SharePoint. Real-time Collaboration:

Unfortunately, neither method offers true "real-time" collaboration where both teams see edits simultaneously. However, with both methods, whenever someone edits the file in OneDrive or SharePoint, the changes will be reflected shortly after for everyone with access.
