How can I stop Teams from automatically adjusting my call volume to 100 every time I answer or make a phone call?

Every single time I make or take a phone call through Teams (which is the only phone system my agency uses), it automatically adjusts the call volume to 100. I have to go into the sound mixer and adjust the TEAMS volume down to around 20 every single time once the call rings out or I pick up the call. No other volumes are affected on my system. My system volume is fine and stay the same and all other applications that I use that have sound stay at the same volume I set them at throughout the day. I am the main point for phone calls for my department, so as you can imagine, this is very frustrating, as I am tired of my ear drums getting blown out every 2 minutes. I am so desperate, I have my sound settings pulled up and taking up one of my screens since I use it so much. Please fix this issue.

I tried this, but it made no difference.

My issue is similar but slightly different from the original post.

My speaker (headphone) volume is set to 10%.

As soon as I join a Teams meeting, but before I can even select an audio device (I usually call out to another phone), my headphone volume inexplicably increases to 20%.

    This happens every single time.

It does not automatically return to 10% when I leave the meeting; I have to manually reduce the volume back to 10%.

I've tried all of the suggestions on this post and others, and nothing makes a difference.

No, this did not help. This is a headphone issue, not a microphone issue. I also have gone into my setting and unchecked "Allow applications to take exclusive control of this device" for my headphones and that did not help. I am unable to install a virtual audio cable driver. Microsoft needs to fix this bug in their software. This is making using Team unbearable.

    Hello HummelJessiL,

Good day. Thank you so much for choosing Microsoft Community!

I apologize for the inconvenience you've experienced. To stop Microsoft Teams from automatically adjusting your call volume to 100% every time you answer or make a call, you can try the following steps:

    1. In the Teams app, go to your profile picture in the top right corner and select "Settings".
    2. Under the "Devices" section, turn off the "Automatically adjust mic sensitivity" toggle. This will prevent Teams from automatically adjusting your microphone volume.

Image 3. You can also try adjusting your microphone volume manually by right clicking the microphone icon in the system tray, selecting "Open Sound settings", going to the "Recording" tab, selecting your microphone, and adjusting the volume and other settings there. 4. Another option is to install a virtual audio cable driver, which can give you more control over your audio settings and prevent Teams from overriding them. 5. If the above steps don't work, you can try disabling the automatic volume adjustment feature in the "App volume and device preferences" menu in your Windows sound settings.

The key is to take control of your audio settings and prevent Teams from automatically adjusting your microphone volume to avoid the issue of it being set too high during calls.

I hope this fixes the problem. Feel free to let me know the update.

Thank you for choosing the MS community.

    Sincerely

Exactly this is my problem too. 10% is loud enough in my headphones and whenever I join a meeting it always sets it to 20% which is too loud. It does not do this the other way around though, when I set it to 30% and then join a meeting it stays at 30%.

Please Microsoft fix this, I'm tired of having my ears hurt whenever someone has an enthusiastic greeting. Or is there some regedit-wizard out there that knows a fix?

    Hello HummelJessiL

    Hope this finds you well.

Can you please try to set audio reduction in communications mode to "do nothing" and check if there is any difference. Open control panel >Hardware and Sound >Under sound (Change system sounds) >In the sound pop up panel (Communications).

    Looking forward to your response.

    Best Regards,

    Ashraf.
