"Cannot convert to data type" . for Stock

I am using Excel 16.20 (181113) on Mac with the latest OS.  I get an Alert when I try to get stock data: "Alert: Cannot convert to Data Type".

I followed instructions, set up table, inserted stock symbols, selected cells, went to Data and selected stock and then get Alert.

I have tried many variations and nothing works.

Help!

    Hi Bill,

    Thanks for the query.

I perform your steps, but do not see Stock under Data tab. I also check all the commands in Ribbon and Toolbar. To test with the same steps so that we can better assist you, could you please share with us more related screenshots about how you insert stock symbols, select cells, go to Data and then encounter the issue?

Are you using the Stock Connect add-on?

    Regards,

    Tina

I have the same problem - getting the "Cannot convert to Data Type" message, trying both stock and geography types.  Any recommendation on how to solve this?

If you have the Stock Connect add-in installed, can you try removing or disabling it? It is possible there is some conflict between that add-in and the built in Stocks functionality.
