This is lame.  I am getting the same issue.  I have a Samsung S4.  I deleted the Outlook.com app.  I "unchecked" the Android setting that restores old information when you re-instal the app.  I cleared the cache for the app.  And when I reinstalled... I still get the "Authentication Failed".  I even tried making a new Outlook.com account.  It still didn't work.  Finally, I set it up through a Microsoft EAS account Under Settings>Accounts and deleted the app.  I can't believe that Microsoft stores info so deeply in the phone, that the only suggested fix is to remove all data and try again.

    Hi please help!_803,

We understand that you're still having issue accessing your Outlook.com app. If you're getting the same error "***Authentication failed,***Authentication was not successful", please be informed that we are aware of this and our product team is currently working on a fix on this. However, there's no time frame yet on when this issue will be fixed. We appreciate your patience on this matter.

For now, we recommend you to go back to the old app as a temporary workaround.

We hope this information will help you as well as those who are facing similar issues.

    Thanks,

    Dear Geoffrey_A,

ok, so i've got bad caches and bad settings? i have to say, this is new for me, no app i've ever had has asked me to make a full format. I mean, honestly, i have to do extra work because microsofts code isn't up to snuff?

sorry hotmail turned outlook, unless you have a more reasonable fix, other than a full format that may or may not make a difference, i'm going to have to switch over to gmail for good.

one last chance, is there another work around for this pathetic attempt at an "upgrade"?
