I have had a message when I log into my emails saying I need to use a secure code to verify my email account, and that they will send me the code to a different email address. The email address they are sending it to does not exist due to a typo and therefore I am unable to retrieve the code. I have not been able to find any way of changing the email address the code goes to.....HELP!!

    Hi SaraBayley,

    Welcome to Microsoft Community.

I understand that you are being asked to verify your account when you tried to login to your account. Let me assist you with this.

This recent security update that was implemented will prompt you to verify each account’s security information that you have associated in your account. You mentioned that the code will be sent to an incorrect email address, we have certain steps that can be followed to correct this. You may read the article below to know more:

How do I replace all my security info?

Once you have changed your account information, you will still be able to access your mailbox but not the Account Summary page for 30 days. When logging in to the account, you will be asked if you are the one who changed that account security information. To access your emails, please follow the instructions below:

    1. Go to www.outlook.com and sign in with your affected account.

    2. On the page where it says “Did you request a security info change?” please click on “Yes, this was me”.

    3. On the page where it says “We’re not ready for you yet” please click on the next button below the “I found my security info”. This should now let you access your inbox and read your emails.

For complete details about Microsoft account security info, please read the article below:

    Hi Grace,

Thank you for your help. Unfortunately, when I go to "Replace my security" I don't have the "I don't have these any more" option in the drop down box, it only has the incorrect email address.

Is this correct, do I have to wait till the 30 days runs out for it to change? If the 30 days runs out will I still be able to access my account?

    Kind regards,

    Sara

    Hello Sara,

We appreciate your time for posting back. Yes, you are correct. Once you've update your account information (alternate email address, phone number, trusted PC and etc.) you will not be able to update the security information within 30 days. But it doesn't mean that you are totally blocked from accessing your account. You can still access your account to send/receive emails by logging in to **Outlook.com** to send/receive emails and access other Microsoft services like (OneDrive, Calendar and People page).

If you need more clarifications, please submit a request within this **link**. Just to set your expectation, the Outlook.com Community is a good place to find answers to many of your how-to questions and get advice from

other users and community members. However, questions regarding your Microsoft account are not best handled in a public forum due to the personal information involved.

Thank you for cooperation and patience.
