Outlook - Retina images not being handled as they used to

In the recent update it appears that the way retina screenshot images are handled when compsing emails has changed.

If I take a screenshot (on a retina mac) and paste it into an email (on same retina mac), it now renders the image in full size, ie double size. I want it to render natively on hi-dpi displays (ie half size, double pixel). Outlook used to work this way until a week or two ago.

I know something has changed since I now see resizing handles on images.

Is there a way to restore the old behaviour?

What happened is that Microsoft switched the HTML editor in Outlook to Microsoft Word running in the background. At the moment, all you can do is drag the corners of the inserted image to resize it.

Expect changes to occur in Outlook's interface in upcoming updates. If you want to be influential on those changes, join the Insider program in AutoUpdate and choose the Fast option. To launch AutoUpdate use the Help menu in Outlook and choose Check for Updates.

Be aware that if you choose the Fast option you will be able to interact directly with Microsoft as they make changes to the interface. You'll need to have the time to provide business-like feedback to Microsoft, get large downloads for updates, and expect to run into problems and new bugs that need to be fixed.

    Thanks Phillip

This is a work around which also does unfortunately result in non-retina images, scaled down, as per the instruction you've given the utility. The purpose here is to preserve the retina quality of the image in the screen grab.

I don't use a screen grab utility, I just use the built-in functionality, triggered via keyboard shortcut - Shift+control+command+4 - select the region then command+v to paste it into outlook.

Most Screen Grab  Utilities (of which SnagIt! Mac  is the cream of the Crop) have a setting in them in which you set  That actually reduces Retina Images by half. (I don't know That Apple on Grab Utility has this Feature.

In order to do this Screenshot I had to open SnagIt!, first. Then another Screenshot utility  to make the shot.

Look in your Screen Grab Utility for a similar setting.

Reduce the size of what you are trying to grab using retina screenshot and then paste it into outlook and test it. I think this behavior is due to the size of the screenshot taken using retina.

That sort of solves the problem, however what I want is a proper retina full-res image in my email.  Your solution results in an image thats the correct dimensions, but half res (ie fuzzy on a retina screen). I had this functionality in Outlook 2016 for Mac, but now it seems to have been changed.
