My company produces medical devices and we decided to use the Windows 10 IoT Enterprise LTSC Value for our Windows Licensing.

We want to install Windows 10 IoT Enterprise LTSC onto a hard drive without a product key so we can have a "master" hard drive that would be duplicated multiple times. This hard drive would then be installed on the products that we produce and then go through a OOBE that we set up in the answer file. During that process, we want the user to scan the product key we provide to them from the license distributor. At that point, the license will be activated for that product.

Is this possible? I've encountered issues on setting up the "master" hard drive with the answer file and it asking for the product key to install. I've used a product key that I've had through my MSDN account, but from my understanding, there is a limited amount of times that you can do that. Then after Windows is installed, I haven't been able to find a way to activate the license that was given to me from our license distributor. I've clicked "Change Key" in the "My PC" properties section but nothing happens.

How can we go about making this "master" hard drive that can be duplicated multiple times and during installation have the distributor provided license be activated during the OOBE?

Thank you!

LTSC licensing is a bit different. You get one activation license key for your company, and you purchase stickers. These stickers will have a key but cannot be put into the image. It is only for tracking purposes. The key is good for 50,000 activations. When the system connects to the internet on first boot, activation will happen in teh back ground. This document might help: https://www.annabooks.com/Articles/Articles_IoT10/Windows-10-IoT-Licensing-Rev1.3.pdf and this article covers activation limitations: https://www.annabooks.com/Articles/Articles_IoT10/Windows-10-IoT-E-ActivationCheckVAMT-Rev1.3.pdf

You can work with your distributor to get access to the Microsoft Digital Operation Center. From there you can download the OEM version of Windows 10 IoT Enterprise LTSC ISO and get the test key that comes with the ISO. It is part of documentation that goes with the ISO. Or the distributor can get the documents for you. The test key can be put into the master answer file and you wont have to worry about losing an activation or be asked for a key. Put the real license key into the sysprep unattended file for images you are going to ship. Never give this key out.

Your distributor should have explained all this.
