Windows Server 2019 licensing for Host and VM

Hello all,
I think I recall reading this a while back, but would like to get confirmation or documentation

But with Win 2019 Std. Can you take one License, set up the server as a Host machine (physical) and then set up a VM under the host, and use 1 license for both?

    Hi @Seth Dunn ,

    Windows Server 2019 Standard edition is licensed for two (2) operating system environments (OSEs), or Hyper-V containers.

    Clarification:

    • The Standard edition permits use of the server software in two OSEs on the Licensed Server.
    • Standard edition permits use of one Running Instance of the server software in the Physical OSE on the Licensed Server (in addition to two Virtual OSEs), if the Physical OSE is used solely to host and manage the Virtual OSEs.
