Outlook for Android does not include original message when replying

I recently switched from the native email app on my Samsung Galaxy S9+ to Outlook for Android that I installed from the Play store. I did this on the advice of a reply I received on the Microsoft forums to solve the problem that when I delete an email in Outlook on my computer, the email does not get deleted in the native email app on my phone, even though I have both set for IMAP. Using the Outlook for Android app solves this problem BUT it does not include the original email message when I reply using the app on the phone. I have read a couple of forum posts about this and have seen there are two ways to make it do this. Please see attached screen shot. In the Reply/Reply All view, click either icon shown in red boxes.

HOWEVER, you must do this EVERY TIME you reply. I want to make it include the original message in Replies and Forwards EVERY TIME I reply or forward a message BY DEFAULT. I have not seen how to do this. If I can not make this the default then the Oulook for Android app is a non-starter for me and I will uninstall it and go back to the native Android app.

Also, the Outlook for Android app seems to make and save multiple drafts of messages, not just one. I found this out when I searched (in Outlook on my computer) for text that I knew was in a certain message and Outlook found several messages and they were all drafts of the same message. How to stop this from happening? The native app on the phone and Outlook on the computer only save ONE draft of each message.

Thanks,

Don

Hi Don. Thank you for your reply and for the additional information. I did test it also on my end before I posted my reply so I know that it is definitely working. This sounds like a behavior of a bug though. To confirm this, however, I would recommend reaching out directly to the in-app support for Outlook mobile, as they are the best point of contact for issues specific to the app.

In your Outlook settings, tap Help & feedback > Contact Support.

    Kind regards.

    Hi Raech,

I am on "version 4.2142.2 (42142811)". I deleted and re-added my account but it still does not include the original in the reply unless I tap the double arrow. See screenshots. I sent a message from my Gmail account to my Comcast account using Gmail on the web in Chrome. I made two replies from Outlook on my phone. The first screenshot below shows what the reply looks like, as viewed in Gmail on the Gmail website, if I do not tap anything extra but just reply and add the text shown and tap send. The second screenshot shows what the reply looks like in Gmail if I tap that double arrow I showed in my original post above. I totally agree with you that it SHOULD work as you say it does but sadly it does not. Maybe a recent update changed the behavior? The kids at MS are well known for doing that sort of thing because, well they know what we want better than we do ;-)

    Don

Hi Don! This is Raech. I'm an Outlook.com user like you and I'm happy to help.

When you reply or forward an email, it should include the original message by default without any additional step. Also with the drafts, it should only save one.

What version is your app currently on?

Try removing your account from the app and re-add it and let me know if that helps.
