Emails defaulting to Trash folder

All incoming emails whose email address does not have a rule routes direct to the trash folder.  Also, moving those emails to the Inbox folder without creating a rule, will soon revert back to the trash folder without prompting to do so.   Do all expected/unexpected email addresses now require a rule?  This renders Outlook almost useless.

We appreciate you confirming the type of account and Office program that you are using to manage your emails and folders.

We might agree that the setting or accurate recommendation you are looking for in this matter may depend on which edition you are using.

Therefore, I’ll be moving this thread to the Business category to let our experts notice this concern and make sure you will get the accurate methods to properly set up permissions on your account and in the Outlook desktop app that you are using regarding your incoming emails as the issue may already have something to do with the fact that you are using a business account.

Once we have moved this thread, our expert will get notified, and all you need to do is wait for the next representative to address your concern.

Should you have other concerns that we can assist you with, you can get back to us by replying to this post or create a new thread using this link if you have a different query.

    Thanks for your reply.

I see no reference to Pro Plus edition under Account/User Information although the complexity of program features would make it appear as a business account (team email, meetings, etc.)  My email is through att.net which goes through Yahoo servers.  The most recent email you sent went straight to the trash folder.  I have moved your previous email back into the inbox several times only to find it back in the trash folder without prompting.    Here is the update history.

I may  not have this whole thing set up correctly.  Since this I bought this new computer, it appears to perform functions without prompting or asking for permission to run programs.  Here is a screen shot of the main page.  Perhaps this will help.

Note your incoming email went straight to the trash folder.   Let me know what you find out.

Thank you for your response, Randy.

Based on the given information regarding the version of your Office program, it seems it is a Pro Plus edition, could you please verify if you are using a business or a personal email account? Also, are you using a third-party email account or Outlook.com?

As of this moment, it seems that the issue is only occurring when accessing your email account via the Outlook desktop application. Could you confirm this? If so, and since you have checked all the rules, try removingand re-adding the email account to the application to see if there’s any improvement.

Lastly, it would also be more helpful if you can provide a screenshot of the most recent Windows updates that were installed on your computer as it may indeed have something to do with the issue. To get this information, search Windows Update settings on your start menu, click on it and select View update history. Here is a link for instructions on how to include screenshots in your post or reply. **Note:**Please remove any of your confidential informationthat might be included in the screenshot. For a recording, you may use the method below how to make a recording:

We’d love to hear any results from you soon and provide you appropriate recommendations if needed. We look forward to your response.

I'm using Windows 10 with the latest update of a few days ago.  I have Office 365 with Outlook version 2101 (build 13628.20274). I have reviewed all the rules created thus far and all are appropriate.  I had no rules until I started over using Outlook on this new PC just after the last windows update.  The previous PC had the hard drive lock up and I lost all Outlook related files, rules, and address book.   I have a second email address that is used only on a browser (Google Chrome) on one of two other PC's.  When I set up this new computer, somehow the email address used on Outlook was automatically added to the Google Chrome browsers and, if the browser window was open, emails would skip Outlook and go to the other computers.  I got that stopped by removing the Outlook email account from the Chrome browser.   Since the last Windows update, most emails started going to the "trash" folder.  I began making rules for commonly used addresses to go to specific folders.  I also began receiving many spam emails, advertising, and phishing emails (about 40 over two days).  Those always get a rule to go straight to the "trash" folder.   Going forward, any new email address that does not have a rule attached to it, will most likely go to the trash folder.  I say "likely" because I have moved items from the "trash" folder to the inbox where it will soon (I haven't timed it) revert back to the "trash" folder.   It has done that several times on the same email.

I hope this helps your possible solution.  I've used Outlook for over 20 years and haven't had any problems until the new PC and most recent windows update.  Let me know.

    Hi Randy,

We got your concern with your Outlook desktop app wherein all your incoming emails are routed automatically in your Trash folder. Allow us to check on this, and we’ll assist you in the best way we can.

There may be a rule that causes this matter to occur. Could you please verify how were the existing rules created? Also, how are you accessing your account isn’t through the Outlook desktop app or via a web browser?

Though this tedious, you may need to manually check your existing rules that may be causing the said behavior. This will help us isolate the possibility of rules related concern.

Please respond to this thread to let us know how the issue progresses. Similarly, if you have more questions, please inform us by replying to this post.
