Default Email Change...where is FILE Setting!

I'm angry frustrated by something that should be so simple, but I can't get an answer.

If you were to ask me do I have an outlook account...I'd say I have 3...3 .live email accounts.

PROBLEM: Someone (I know) sent me a new outlook business address email account. I fired it up...I can't send or receive emails...but that's not my problem.  Somehow I activated my "Default Email" setting and this is my only email address I can use to answer others emails (when outside of outlook)...since I can't email out I can't get help

ULTIMATE QUESTION(s):  How do I find this page? I have no idea where this "outlook page" is, do I need to set up an microsoft or outlook account I don't know about?  Is this the page

I don't know how to get to the page with "file, account settings, settings...email tab and close? EVERY how-to online tells me to do this, none tell me where it is? I don't want a default email....I want to send emails from each email location where I am doing business/personal at the time.

I hope this makes sense...THANK YOU!

Change your default email account

  1. Select File > Account Settings > Account Settings.
  2. From the list of accounts on the Email tab, select the account you want to use as the default account.
  3. Select Set as Default > Close.

Is this below correct to fix my problem, how do I get to "file etc...

Thank you again!

    Hello AzKG

Hi, I'm Karl, an independent advisor and will try to help you with this.

Am somewhat confused by what you actual question based on the problem description. You posted your question in the Outlook.com forum focused on accessing an account via webmail whereas the screenshot you included is for the Outlook desktop program

    >>

The key words in this description are the words "when outside of Outlook" - that indicates you are asking about accessing an email account via webmail (your browser) - the Outlook desktop program included in your screenshot has no bearing on anything

#1 - What do you mean by someone sent you a "new Outlook business address email account? Was a new email address/account created for you?

#2 - Re: "Somehow I activated my "Default Email" setting and this is my only email address I can use to answer others emails (when outside of outlook)"

Do you mean that when you try to log into one of your 3 live email accounts via webmail (your browser) that it's defaulting to the Outlook web page for your new business account?

If yes, you need to be sure to log out of the account and log back in using this link

    https://outlook.live.com/owa/

It could be that your browser has saved your credentials and if the case, you'll need to clear your browser's cache. If you use a private browser session and can log in without any issues, then it's definitely a browser based problem.

#3 - In answer to your question as it relates to the screenshot you provided

While I'm not at all sure that the Outlook desktop program has anything to do with this problem, the answer to your question on how to change the <default email account> in Outlook desktop is done by

    From within Outlook, click on

    a) <File> --> <Account Settings> --> <Email> tab

    b) select the email account you want to make the default --> click on <set as default>

*** changing the <default email account> in Outlook desktop would never prevent you from using any other account to send emails.

Hey Karl, thank you for checking in.

Let me take you out of my weeds and narrow the focus.

I was hired for a job and I received one of their email addresses set up for me independently through their company via outlook.

**Do you mean that when you try to log into one of your 3 live email accounts via webmail (your browser) that it's defaulting to the Outlook web page for your new business account?**No, picture an outside company that allows me to download youtube videos via their software.  I click on their contact email, this new business pops up as the default.  To complicate things I can't send or receive emails on that...rather than being able to type in my email as the contact for the youtube company I can't do anything.

If yes, you need to be sure to log out of the account and log back in using this link
    https://outlook.live.com/owa/
That link does nothing for me as it already does that...but not from the new company so I have to continuously type in outlooklive?

GMAIL is super easy my default shifted to another gmail email and all I had to do was sign out of all gmail and I could just log back into my default.

In outlooks case I don't want any default email...if I have to have one than I'd like to change it and pic the one I want.

While I'm not at all sure that the Outlook desktop program has anything to do with this problem, the answer to your question on how to change the <default email account> in Outlook desktop is done by From within Outlook, click on a) <File> --> <Account Settings> --> <Email> tab b) select the email account you want to make the default --> click on <set as default> I can't help but laugh...it's what every website says to do and not one of them can tell me where "file" is...I know it's me, but I am not sure I can explain any better than my next paragraph.

Let me try it this way... knowing that every single time (normally) when I check into one of my emails outlook email login comes on...I pick the email I want to use, boom I am on my email.   I never go anywhere else in outlook...couldn't tell you what is is outside of my email logins...as far as outlook.

So..can you walk me through how you would log on starting from your outlook email?  You close out your email, then what? (don't click on a desktop link or internet tab please)...how do I go from my email...heck anywhere I don't have a link on my desktop for outlook or a tab...where is <File> --> <Account Settings> --> <Email> tab ?I hope that helps...

Sorry but am not closer to understanding what exactly it is that you are conveying.

Re: The email address you were provided by your client

Just to make sure we're both on the same page

#1 - Did they provide you with a web page on which you login to your account?

The log in link I provided was for a free/premium Outlook.com account and I suspect if your address was Outlook based, it would be different then that.

    #2 - Re: <File>

In order to have gotten the screenshot you included in the original post - you would had to click on the <File> button, only way to have gotten to that page. <File> is on the top left hand side of your screenshot before you clicked on <Options>

To set a different <email default account> is done by click on <File> --> <Account Settings> instead of clicking on <Options>

#3 - Here's where you are really losing me in all of this

    >>

knowing that every single time (normally) when I check into one of my emails outlook email login comes on...I pick the email I want to use, boom I am on my email.

    <<

Can you provide a screenshot of how you log into your accounts since I'm not at all sure where separate logins come into play under normal operation or whether you are talking about the Outlook desktop program asking you which Outlook profile you want to use or if this is related to something else. OR are you referring to the drop down list that' shown in the 2nd screenshot - that's a list that's populated by your browser

More specifically, can you describe exactly (a screenshot would go a really long way) - like which URL you're using if this is done through your browser

Screenshot #2 - Outlook.com login screen (in this case, using MS Edge as the browser)

I don't do well with second languages...TECH I speak un poquito...like my spanish. :) Sorry.

Did they provide you with a web page on which you login to your account?
Sent me a regular email, on the email it said the following, instead of it being "live".com
it was the initials of his business.  It's not but I'll use the postal service as an example, his email to me.

**From New Boss:**Very sorry it took me this long to circle back. Email: ******@usps.com ***(the actual @***** is recognized by outlook)***Your password is now: ******* Let me know if you have any issues adding your email to your PC or phone.

#1 - Did they provide you with a web page on which you login to your account?
My manager, not boss (in another city) asked me a couple times if I was familiar with outlook (in regard to the email address they would attach me to)..

The log in link I provided was for a free/premium Outlook.com account and I suspect if your address was Outlook based, it would be different then that.

Well...we have probably reached out disconnect point.

However it won't accept my screen shots...paint you a picture is the only thing I can do.
