I can't start Microsoft Outlook on my Mac. I can start Word and Excel. When I try to start Outlook, I get the message "*This identity cannot be opened with this version of Outlook"*I ran Microsoft AutoUpdate and I am up to date except for one Excel update that always get an error. Since it is Excel, I assume it's not the problem but I don't know how to check.

Mac OS is Sierra.

Microsoft Office version 2011.

    Hi

You will get this error message whenever you try to open an identity made with a newer build of Outlook in an older build of Outlook.

The cure is to install Office updates. The current update of Outlook 2011 is 14.7.7 and if you install that update you will be able to open the identity.

To install updates, go to the Outlook menu and choose Check for Updates. If it says you have the latest update but you don't have 14.7.7 then download the latest AutoUpdate version and try again.

Download a copy of the current version of AutoUpdate from this link, install and then run AutoUpdate to bring your installation to current update level, then restart your Mac. If the updater does not open automatically after download, double-click the downloaded .pkg file. Click this link to download the updater. The update is free.
