Changing Password difficulty

Windows 10, Office 365.   I have had to change the password on an email account I added to my Outlook account. Outlook will not allow me to update the password for that email account to continue to receive those messages into Outlook - error message is "Something went wrong.  Outlook was not able to save changes to your account.  Try again."  Trying again doesn't help.  No helpful troubleshooting ideas either.   Any ideas?

    Hi AnNWQ,

    Good day! I am Jennifer, an Independent Advisor and Outlook User like you.

    I am here to assist you with updating the password in your Outlook.

    Outlook behavior will cache the password by default.

    What I recommend is to delete the cache in credential manager for the said account and re-enter it again in the Outlook prompt.

    1. Close Outlook
    2. Search for Credential Manager in Windows 10 Search (Control Panel > Credential Manager)
    3. Select the "Windows Credential"
    4. Search for the "account" that you want to change the password and delete
    5. Reopen Outlook afterwards

    Kindly confirm if this resolves the issue.

    I think you may have misunderstood my question:  I need to "change the password on an email account I added to my Outlook account" (not the password for my Outlook account/ my Microsoft account).  It's an account from another provider which I have added to my Outlook account.  I've already changed it with the other provider, and now I just need to change it with Outlook as well so that Outlook will continue to be able to access and pick up email from that account.  Thanks for attempting to help me.

    I understand that you are having difficulty changing your password. As initial troubleshooting, please follow the steps below:

    1. I assume that you are trying to reset your password using a browser. Please clear cache and cookies and/or use a different browser.
    2. Use this link in resetting your password: https://account.microsoft.com/security/
    3. Click password security
    4. Enter current and new desired password.
    5. Click Save.
