Deleted alias and personal data

I recently deleted an alias on my outlook.com account.

I want to know if the deleted alias is immediately disassociated from the personal data in the main/remaining outlook.com account.

In other words is personal data from deleted alias retained in any way, and if so, for how long?

We don't work for Microsoft so can't provide information about what may happen behind the scenes but as far as I am aware, there is no connection of any deleted alias email address to any personal data associated with the account that the alias belonged to. No one in the forum can speak to what, if any, connections maintains for deleted email addresses.

The only people who can give you a 100% definitive answer would be Microsoft Support via

    1. Go to https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/contactus/
    2. Click on 'Contact Support'
    3. Enter 'Talk to an Agent' then press Enter.
    4. Select your product and issue.

Just so there is no misunderstanding, this is a public user-to-user support forum. We're users just like you helping other users. We don't work for Microsoft and have no input on Microsoft's policies, procedures, or design decisions.

    Hi Karl

Thanks for your reply. I’m aware that the alias is simply an alternative email address and that deleting it will not delete email that was sent to it.

My question is. Does Microsoft retain any personal data alongside deleted aliases? For example, would Microsoft be able to link a deleted alias to name/DOB/login history of the account it was previously linked to?

    Thanks

    Michael

    Hello DRosen1

Hi, I'm Karl and will be happy to help you today.

Just to clarify something, an alias address is simply a different email address to access an Outlook.com account. An "alias" by itself has nothing to do with the primary account data.

Once an alias address is deleted, the action is immediate and permanent. Once deleted, the alias email address can never be recovered.

For example, if you have 5 alias addresses on your account, these all refer to the same account. Deleting one has no impact on the data other then that you can not send or receive emails using that email address. All alias addresses use the same mailbox folders. Nothing explicitly sent from/to that address would get deleted from the mailbox.

If I've misunderstood your question, please let me know by providing some additional details
