Cannot delete message on iPad

When in the main message window the button to delete messages does nothing. If I select multiple messages then the delete button functions, but not from within the message. Closed app. Reopened app. Same behavior.
Shut down iPad. Restart iPad. Problem is resolved temporarily.
This has been happening frequently recently.
Is this a known bug?
