I saw the question about this message in a prior thread. I also received this message, but didn't see confirmation as to whether this was legit or not. I did have to set up an account with Microsoft to get into here and ask this question, which makes me wonder if that is the intent of the message??? Please tell me what this message means. I don't know anything about the hotmail.com deleted account.

    Thanks for your response.

Since you’ve confirmed that you don’t have a Microsoft account, there’s a possibility that someone you know may have used your email account as an alternate email address on their Microsoft account that’s why you’ve received the email notification. If none, you may ignore the email and you contact your email provider for some security measure that can provide for your account. This is just to make sure that your account is secure and avoid from being compromised.

Should you have other clarifications, don’t hesitate to let us know.

    1. I feel like this message forced me to set up an account, just to ask the question here. I don't have an account, that I know of.

    Hi CaDavi,

We got your concern about the email you’ve received which contains about the security of the account and we understand that you’d like to verify if the email is legitimate or not. We’ll check on this further and assist you in the best way we can.

Based on the information provided regarding the email, it’s a notification being sent if the system detects some changes made with a Microsoft account to notify the owner of what exactly happened. Usually, the domain of the email address used to send these types of emails is @******@accountprotection.microsoft.com.

To more about the situation, we’d like to ask the following:

    1. Which email account did you receive the security email? Was it an alternate email you may possibly linked to a Microsoft account?
    2. Can you verify the sender of the email? Does it have the same domain as what we’ve indicated above which is @******@accountprotection.microsoft.com?
    3. Have you already tried signing to the Microsoft account that’s being referred to that email and confirm the changes that were made with the security information associated with it? If you haven’t done this yet and you still know its password, you may try signing into that Microsoft account via this link: https://account.live.com/SecurityNotifications/Update, so you’ll be able to check the email account used for the security alert.

Once we got your confirmation, we’ll be able to determine the needed actions to take place and get this addressed.

    We’ll wait for your response.
