"Sign-in error for <email>@live.com" - Android System

For about half a year now I've been struggling with a "signin error" for my live.com email address on my Google Pixel 5. 2-3 times per day I get a notification on my phone with a triangular symbol with the above message, and nothing I've tried has fixed it.

  • I've tried removing the account from my Gmail app and adding it back, no luck. The next day I get the error again.
  • I've tried changing my password, no luck.
  • I've tried making the email connection "manual" and adjusting the settings myself with no change.
  • I've tried getting an "app password" to use instead of my typical one but I don't have the option since 2-factor isn't enabled.

I'm frustrated and am at a loss right now, I spent 4 hours waiting with Google support and they simply told me to reach out to Microsoft for help.

    I understand your concern that you are having issues with the sign in of your account on your Google Pixel 5 device. Let's us check on this together and sort this out. Rest assured, I will do anything that I can to assist you with your concern.

    To better assist you, please provide us this information;

    1. Can you please confirm what email client you are using on your device with your email? Is it the Outlook mail app or the Gmail application?
    2. Can you please provide us a photo or screenshot of the error notification?
    3. Is this the email address registered to your Google Pixel 5? If this is the email address that is registered, I recommend that you go online first and log in to account.microsoft.com **** with your email. Then update your sign in credentials specially your password and other security information and go back to your Google Pixel 5 device then update the information as well.
    4. If the information of your account online is already updated and working then on your phone you are still experiencing the same, I recommend that you contact Google support for further checking.
