Every attempt to download results in sync errors. Almost all show the following message:

14:31:51 Synchronizer Version 16.0.14729.20108

14:31:51 Synchronizing Mailbox ___@___.___'

14:31:51 Synchronizing Hierarchy

14:31:56 Error synchronizing folder

14:31:56                                 [800CCC0E-0-0-720]

14:31:56 Terminated in error

14:31:56                                 [800CCC0E-0-0-720]

I've gone into rules and alerts and corrected individual errors....but no success.

If no ideas....will deleting all rules solve problem?

Thanks

    Hello, SW Retired

Thank you for posting in the Microsoft Community.

I understand from your message that you got the sync error when trying to download the folder.

In order to provide you with a more accurate solution, there are some questions I need to confirm with you.

    1. Are you using Outlook client or Outlook.com website to encounter this problem?
    2. What is the account type that you have on your Outlook desktop app? Is it POP3, IMAP, or Exchange?

Is it POP3, IMAP or Exchange?

    1. Does this occur in all folders or a specific folder?

    Waiting for your reply.

    Thanks for the reply

In tracing the symptoms as a potential IMAP problem I discussed the issue with AOL tech and found that they had made changes.

Puzzling was that both my outlook 365 (PC) and 3rd party email app (android) had encountered sync errors on the same day - Tue 4 Jan. I'm not sure if the changes affected just me (an old verizon.net user) or everyone. My incoming IMAP changed from (IMAP.mail.yahoo.com) to (IMAP.aol.com). But since they had made IMAP server changes a few years ago I had tried old one and it still didn't work. The real issue was that they changed their password requirements to "one-time" auto generated passwords for servers that cannot be tailored by the user or match the AOL mail website password. Once the new 16 digit passwords were used, both my applications functioned properly. But, in order to get the new 16 digit passwords you have to still log onto the AOL mail website with your "personal" password. AOL also made a minor change in the way they sort incoming "bulk" emails (their method of spam). They disable functionality and links in the emails that force you to move the email to the inbox in order to read it. I'll worry about that one later.

    Thanks for your help.

I like the ability to sort email, but managing rules and alerts has become very bloated. I'll try some of your suggestions.

    r/ Steve

    Hello, SW Retired

    Thanks for your reply.

Those kinds of message that contains a Sync error affect some IMAP accounts that are configured in Outlook 2013.

Microsoft is researching this problem at present.

I'm so sorry for this inconvenience.

For specific information please click the link below.

Messages move from Inbox to a renamed folder - Outlook | Microsoft Docs

Microsoft will also continue to add the research result in the link.

To solve this issue the link provides the related pictures and solution.

Also, you can try the following steps:

    1. log in to your webmail
    2. Move all your mails from subfolders to your main inbox
    3. Delete the subfolder from WebMail
    4. Create new subfolders from Webmail
    5. Now create a new IMAP account with Outlook 2013

I hope the above methods are helpful.

    Waiting for your reply.

Hi, thanks for the response. Some background.

I'm using the outlook client in office 365 (Version 2112 Build 16.0.14729.20156) 32-bit). My email server resides with AOL using a verizon.net email address. My incoming email server is IMAP.mail.yahoo.com. My outlook is set up with email coming into the email address with several rules set up to sync the email across several sub folders in a local data file.

Of the two downloading tasks, the "sending" task reports completed, but the sync task always responds with "send/receive" error. The status bar always shows connected.

My initial investigation found several of the individual rules were flagged as red with "move" errors in the rule descriptions. I fixed/removed those rules, but the overall sync error keeps returning. I suspect a bigger issues is something got corrupted.

    Thanks for your help.
