    Hi Rosy_888,

First and foremost, thanks for reaching out to our Microsoft Community Forum and please accept our warmest regards and sincerest hope that all is well.

We understand that you're having trouble securing your Microsoft Account by adding an alternate email address.

In order for us to better assist you I need to ask:

    1. In the device you're s attempting to add the alternate email address, can you tell me if you’re getting all green checkmarks when visiting the following link? https://portal.office.com/ServiceStatus
    2. What email account are you attempting to add as an alternate email address? You don't have to tell me the actual email account. I just need to know if it's @Outlook.com or @gmail.com or @yahoo.com or something else.
    3. Have you tried using a different web browser when adding an alternate email address to your Microsoft Account?

We look forward to your response.

    Sincerely,

    Glenn Rue

    Hi Glenn,

    1. What is the link https://portal.office.com/ServiceStatus used for? I don't know the purpose of the link whether it is related to the problem. When clicking on it, all green checkmarks are displayed on the webpage.
    2. I tried to add @outlook.com for an alternative email.
    3. I use Microsoft Edge browser for signing in https://www.microsoft.com

    Hi Rosy_888,

Thanks for getting back to me.

The Service health website is designed to check if any of our Microsoft services are blocked from your end by either your Internet connection or whatever security software you have installed on your computer.

This @outlook.com account you're adding as an alternate email is this an entirely different account or a just an alias? Also have you tried using a totally different email account as an alternate email and see if that works?

By the way when you're adding the alternate email to this account are you doing it on the same device that you've previously used to log in to this account successfully?

    Sincerely,

    Glenn Rue

    Hi Glenn,

I have tried changing email address to others for Email a code. There is no temporary problem with several ones now, except for the current email I am using to sign in.

BTW, before I used @hotmail.com to sign in https://microsoft.com , it required me to check an alternative email @yahoo.com though I had not set up an email to send code at @yahoo.com

    Thanks Glenn,

You're welcome, Rosy_888. Happy to be of help.

I need to clarify something with you here. So have you tried using a totally different email account as an alternate email address and you still get the error message you mentioned in your first post about the "There's a temporary problem." error message?

Also what do you mean by this statement: "required me to check an alternative email @yahoo.com though I had not set up an email to send code at @yahoo.com." Are you trying to tell me that this @yahoo.com account that has been added as a recovery email in your @hotmail account is not yours? And that it's been added without your consent?

    Sincerely,

    Glenn Rue
