Adding phone number to an account

Question

I'm stuck at the For verification purposes, please reenter the password for your account when trying to add phone number. I am logged into the account but no phone number is shown so try to add it, will get the verification code SMS but then it asked to reenter my password but won't let me go any further, pressing next does nothing. I need to add the phone number to use teams but seem to be unable to.

Hello JWL-Help,,  Thank you for bringing this to our attention. We appreciate that you've taken the time to post your concern here in Microsoft Community Forum.We understand that you’re having trouble adding a phone number on your Microsoft account. Let’s work together to get to the bottom of this. Now in order for us to better assist you on this matter I need to ask:

1. Can you please tell us what you have clicked in Microsoft account website to add a phone number? Did you click on " Your info > Edit account info"? Because I did some test here on our end and I tried to add a phone number to my another Microsoft account that doesn't have any phone number added to it and I was able to add it successfully after typing in my Microsoft account password.
2. Please confirm if we've clicked the same button in Microsoft account website. I have provided a screenshot below.
3. When you log in to your account online, did you manually type in your password? or the browser already remembered your account password?
4. What browser you're using to log in to Microsoft account website?
5. Can you please provide the domain name of the Microsoft email account you have used in signing to account.microsoft.com website? I only need the domain name and not the actual e-mail address (ex. @outlook.com, @msn.com, @hotmail.com etc.)

You may try to use Microsoft Edge browser and open an InPrivate window and search Microsoft website to log in. The reason why I asked you to do this because sometimes a normal browser would remember old passwords and that's why you can't proceed to the other window to add a phone number.

You can also try to use a different device like tablet, iPad or another Windows computer or even a Mac computer.
