Can't disconnect Windows 10 profile from Azure AD

We are seeing a strange issue on a Windows 10 machine for a client we manage. Under the local admin account, we see it is connected to Azure with an admin account. This is the account that we use to join all devices in their environment to Azure AD. However, when logged into the user's profile, it is showing that it is joined to Azure with their own personal account. It is at this point we see that the option to disconnect from Azure AD is grayed out and can't be clicked on.

I discovered the device name had been changed at one point, so I changed it back to it's original name, but that did not resolve the issue.

Troubleshooting performed:

  • logged into local admin account
  • disconnected from Azure AD (the admin account)
  • rebooted the device
  • deleted the device from Azure AD admin center
  • logged back into local admin account and rejoined to Azure AD (using the admin account)

After doing this, the user's profile still shows as being connected to Azure with her own account. She continues to get notifications on her desktop stating that she no longer has access to the organization's resources.

I didn't think it was possible to have one profile on a different Azure domain than another profile.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
