SQL Server Management Studio setup fails

Question

The setup displays the splash screen and then nothing. The above question is unanswered, I've tried all steps suggested. Had previous Visual Studio Community eddition, Visual Studio 2017, DevExpress Framework installed. Uninstalled everything, no solution.

Did you check the suggestion from your same thread that you posted before?

From the SSMS setup log that you offered, I get the same information that Erland mentioned. Any other more SSMS setup log for your issue?

Yes. These installation failures are always related to something in the environment that Setup was not prepared for. Maybe it should have been better prepared - at least with a more gracious failure. But you need to cut Microsoft some slack. There are so many ways that a machine may be messed up, so I guess it is about impossible to forsee everything. Add to that there may be anti-malware software that gets in the way.

You may have to reinstall to Windows. If you want to track down where it is reading and coming back empty-handed, you could monitor setup with Process Monitor from www.sysinternals.com, but it can be quite tedious.
