Highlighting text and typing doesn't overwrite text in mobile version of Outlook

When I want to replace text in a draft email or Word document, I highlight the words to replace and simply type over with new text. This works in every text editor I've ever used, but it doesn't work in the current version of the Outlook mobile app for iOS. Instead of replacing the highlighted text, mobile Outlook unhighlights the unwanted text and inserts the new text at the end of what had been highlighted, resulting in many errors, rework and frustration. In a desktop version, there is an insert key that I can toggle on/off to insert or overwrite. No such option on a smartphone. What's the fix?

I found a thread from Jan 2016 covering exactly this problem, except it was happening in Word.

    Good day!

Thank you for posting to Microsoft Community. We are happy to help you.

What you mentioned is a known issue for Outlook mobile app

Microsoft is still working on the fix

Hopefully in the new version of Outlook mobile this issue can be resolved

And I will keep you posted if any update

Currently I will collect some information from your side and send the feedback internally

1 What is your Outlook mobile app version and iOS version

What version of Outlook do I have? (microsoft.com)

2 Please take a screenshot of this scenario

3 Have you try “Reset Account” option ?

Please let us know if you have more questions

Thanks for your time and your understanding .

    Sincerely,
