A user reported that he's been seeing this issue for "some time" where when he sends out an email with attachment (less than 5 MB), he receives this error: "An operation on the server timed out. The server may be down, overloaded, or there may be too much net traffic. I couldn't find a clear solution from Microsoft or Apple forums.

Can you tell me how to fix this problem?

    Dear Jeff KL To,

    Thanks for choosing Microsoft community!

At first please kindly try to login OWA(outlook web app) to check the result.

I suggest firstly check your outgoing server (SMTP) configuration. If there are no problems with your account settings, you will see a green dot before your account when you going to Tools > Accounts.

If there is an yellow dot next to your account, then here is a reference article for you to Re-add your email account to Outlook to see if it helps.

Moreover, to get further suggestions and better help you with this issue, I'd like to recommend the dedicated Outlook in-app support team to you, you can simply contact them in Outlook client by simply going to Help > Contact Help to require further 1:1 troubleshooting.

Hope this can help you and wish you all the best!

    Best regards,

    Kerry
