2016 Outlook problem

I have Outlook 2016 on my home computer. After upgrading to Windows 11, I keep getting this message when I open Outlook - "Outlook Closed while you had items open. Reopen those items from your last session?" I often get this message even when there are no items open.

When I go to; File, Options, General, Start up options, that menu is empty - there are no "Start up options" available to me.

How do I get rid of this notice?

I don't have an "Office" option after Microsoft. That could be because I only purchased the Outlook portion of Office, not the full Office suit.

Do you have an Outlook\preferences key under Microsoft ?

Oh shoot - it looks like the key got switched around somehow - it looks like I accidentally drug 'software' out of place with an errant mouse click, but preferences is out of place too. Not idea how I did that. :( Sorry.

If you pinned the calendar or task pane on the right, there should be some preferences values beginning with "pin" - appointment locations might be there too, value is LocationMRU

    The correct key is

    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\16.0\Outlook\Preferences

    DWORD: ReopenWindowsOption

    Value: 1

I do open outlook every day. I have outlook set to automatically update, and the version I have is currently up to date.

I tried to update the registry key as per your previous e-mail, but I can't get any further than "HKEY_CURRENT_USER > > Microsoft",

I don't have an "Office" option after Microsoft. That could be because I only purchased the Outlook portion of Office, not the full Office suit.

Hopefully they will fix the issue in an update soon.

    Thanks,

    Ed.

If you don't normally restart Outlook daily, start doing that, maybe in the afternoon or evening - if Microsoft pushes out an update to fix it, the update will be installed when Outlook restarts. If it's a silent update, you wont see a notification that an update is waiting.

    Hi Diane,

Thanks for the quick and knowledgable reply.

I will wait a bit, and if it still happens will try the registry key fix.

    Ed.

Hi, I'm Diane and will be happy to help you today.

Microsoft is aware of the bug and their testing, the dialog box should stop showing up for good after restarting Outlook several times, but if not, you can try to set this registry key.

    Software HKEY_CURRENT_USER > > Microsoft > Office > 16.0 > preferences > Outlook

    DWORD: ReopenWindowsOption

    Value: 1

If you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask.
