verification email obsolete

I really hope somebody out there can help me. I have spent the last 5 hours trying to fathom this out and as a tech phobe I am very confused so I will try to explain as best I can.

My Outlook (hotmail) appeared to be playing up when I tried to forward an email so I ended up somehow signing out my account. This is where the problem begins ..........

When I tried to get back in it said that a verification code was sent to my back up, alternative email address, However that email address is now obselete, it was an old Orange account, so I decided there and then to change the security info and added a gmail account I have but rarely use and I also included my phone number.

BUT when I try to log in now it asks for a verification code that is being sent to the obselete email ???? I cannot seem to change this in any way at all. I have even clicked to cancel the security update but again it states that a code is being sent to the old email. There is no other option that I can see.

Sorry for this being a bit long winded but I couldn't think of any other way to explain.

I really need my emails ...........any help appreciated

    Hello , FionaWilson3

Welcome to Microsoft Community and appreciate your time taken for sharing detailed information. I understand that you can't access the verification code sent from Outlook. I know this is frustrating since you’ve been trying for 5 hours. I will provide you with some possible solutions on this issue, and you can try to follow them.

If you haven't tried this way, you can sign in to get a security code through your phone. You can use any phone number to request the security code. The phone does not need to be a smartphone, or connected to the internet, it just needs to be able to receive text messages. For more information, please visit: Account has been locked (microsoft.com)

Attention: account issues involve personal privacy, and you may eventually need to visit Microsoft site to submit questions by yourself to get your issue resolved.

Alternatively, if you want to contact Microsoft Customer Service the solve this problem, please read this first:

In addition, I strongly recommend that you update your account information in time in the future. If any associated phone number or email address has been deprecated, please update the associated information in your account in time.

Feel free to post back if you have any additional questions.

    Best Regard,
