Assuming an image is not embedded CID -- how do I view the hyperlink source/address of an image in a received Outlook email on 365 PC desktop app?

I have tried Forwarding and clicking/hovering around.

Is the only option to 'View Source'?

Hello Lucy

Short answer: Yes.

However, just to clarify something, an "embedded" image is not the same as an "attached" image file which in turn is not the same as an attachment from a cloud source (i.e. Dropbox, OneDrive etc). There is no hyperlink for the first two attached file types.

To be perfectly honest, I've never done a deep dive on message headers but can say that if the attachment is not provided as a link, you will not see a link in the message header. I also just looked at a test message I sent with only an attachment that was NOT embedded and there was no CID in the message header.

Thanks Karl. So if there's no attachment/s to the email and I see only 'CID' in the source, then it's embedded, correct?
