Old Account Compromised

Hi,

I have an old Hotmail email I lost the password for years ago. Any attempts since to recover it have been fruitless as Microsoft asks for things like 'recently sent emails' which there should be none. I have no other info help recover it.

This was fine, I had written the email off, but today someone just 'hacked' my Facebook account from my old Hotmail email, meaning someone else has gained access to it. lb*****@fineloans.org is the recovery account now attached to my old Hotmail account and is most probably a scam company.

I can't find a way to directly contact Microsoft about this, as everything require me to sign in.

Is there any way to recover the email address now, or at least shut it down because there are scammers using my account and has access to my information.

Thanks.

It's all in the original post:

-Somebody tried to gain control of my Facebook account using my redundant email address. It wasn't me, so someone else must have control.

-When I try to 'recover account' on my old email, it shows it is now attached to another email account which I don't own. That account is a email address with the domain of a scamming website - so it makes sense that they might have stolen access of my email.

    Hi,

    Thanks for the reply,

I managed to secure my Facebook account, so that's not the issue here. What matters is my old Hotmail account, which is currently under the possession of somebody who is not me. It has personal emails and information which a scam company can now access. I want to shut it down or recover it for myself.

I last tried to recover it in 2013, and I haven't been able to log into it for over a decade. It's now attached to a company called fineloans.org, which IS a scam website. At some point they manage to gain control of my email, change the passwords, and now they have access to my personal information and old emails.

I would love to be able top regain control of that email as it has sentimental value. But, failing that, I just need it taken out of the hands of scammers.

It is possible that some time after you abandoned the account but before it was permanently disabled that someone was able to compromise the account. That can happen if you ever used the same password you used for the Microsoft account on some other service and that service was compromised. If this is the case, there's nothing you can do about it from the Microsoft side, since it's no longer your account. The best you can do is follow the guidance for recovering the account here: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/account-bil... . If it doesn't work, as sad as it is to say, you most likely can't recover that account.

After a year of not logging in, Microsoft would have emptied your mailbox completely with no hope of message recovery. Why do you think that account is in possession of someone else? What's the evidence?

Hi. I'm Brian and I will do my best to help you.

A Facebook account, even if you used a Microsoft account address for it, is not a Microsoft account, so whether or not the Microsoft account no longer exists is immaterial.

If you haven't logged into a Microsoft account for two years or more, Microsoft permanently closes the account and it can never be reopened nor can the address ever be reused for another Microsoft account. So, Facebook will have to help you deal with the issue because if what you say about the account is true, you won't be able to use it for any recovery of the Facebook account.
