Microsoft REFUSING to text verification code, 2 step verification.

Hello

I am trying to sign into my Microsoft account using the same phone number I have had for the past 25 years and the same phone number I have had on the account for the past 10 years or so, since I created it. I have never changed the phone number, as I have had the same phone number from my very first phone as a young lad.

After entering my password it asks me to confirm the last 4 digits of my phone number and then says "if these digits match your phone number, you'll receive a text message with a code". The problem is, the code never arrives. I have been trying for weeks and no luck.

I have had 2-step verification on for quite a while but it has suddenly just stopped working. I'm logged into the account on my iPhone only.

This is utterly stupid. What do I do?

Is 2-step Verification turned Off on the said account? If Yes, you could try using the automated account recovery form since the password reset is not successful. The form applies if 2-step verification hasn't been enabled. Below is Microsoft's guideline for using the form.

Otherwise, you'll have to wait until the SMS service issue is fixed by Microsoft as codes aren't arriving for many users at the moment.

Just so there’s no misunderstanding, this is a user-to-user support forum. We’re users just like you helping other users. We do not work for Microsoft and have no access to any user account so there is nothing we can do or check from within the forum. We have no input on Microsoft’s policies, procedures, or design decisions.

    Hello Jacob

Thanks for getting back to me.

I tried replacing my security information and it said I have to wait 30 days. I now cancelled that process and it gave me a recovery key but it still won't work in InPrivate mode through edge. It now says I can't replace my security info for 30 days....

Is there any way I can log in with the recovery code?

    Chris

    Hello Chris,

I'm Jacob and I will be happy to help you today.

This seems to be an issue with many users at the moment, may I ask if you have another security method on your account? Like an alternate email address? There seems to be an issue with the SMS service for a while now and codes aren't arriving for many users. If you have another security method on your account, you can request the code to be sent to your alternate email. If not, you'll need to wait until it's fixed. You could also try to login into your account via incognito/private mode on your browser to request the code to see if it'll arrive.

I hope that helps, kindly let me know if you need further help.

    Regards,
    Jacob.
