I have Microsoft authentication app (thank goodness) and received an approval request for sign in the other day. I denied it as it wasn’t me, immediately went to my account and changed the password. I have been monitoring the sign in activity and I have received a few Microsoft auth app request since then but all the activity states unsuccessful sign in/incorrect password entered.

Now I am receiving activity information about automatic sync from Brazil & Thailand (I’m in the United States).

I have changed my password again, but am considering deactivating the entire account.

Is there any way possible that hackers can find a work-around the authentication app that I have? I don’t have any financial or important accounts associated with the account but I’m tired of worrying that they are going to be successful as they are constantly trying to sign in from IP addresses from the US and just about every other country, several times a day

    My apologies - re-reading your post, I mis-read it as you having deleted the alias address. Was multi-tasking with another similar quest. Totally my mistake.

    Yes! That’s exactly what I did! I took the ability away to log in with the old email address but did not deactivate it, so now no one can keep trying to log in with it!

    Just as a FYI, there is an even easier solution that doesn't require deleting any email address should you run into this situation again which is the following

    #1 - Add a new @Outlook alias email address

    #2 - Make it the <Primary Alias> for the account

    #3 - log into your Microsoft account using this link

    https://account.live.com/names/manage

    #4 - Sroll down the page and click on <Change sign-in references>

    #5 - uncheck the box for the old email address

    What that will leave you with is

    #6 - Ability to continue to send / receive email using the old email address

    #7 - No one (including you) will be able to log into the account using the old address

Now when I try to use the old email to sign in, I get “this account does not exist”. This is an absolute genius feature on Microsoft’s end. Kudos! Now I don’t have to delete my old account but it still functions as it did!! Can’t say enough about this!
