SMTP - Automatic Sync - Successful Sync by Hacker

I got a notification from Microsoft "Someone else might have accessed" my email account approximately 21 hours after it occurred.

I immediately changed my password, updated my antivirus software and changed my password again.

I also changed my alias.

I have also gone through my account settings and made sure nothing seems amiss.

Does a SMTP - Automatic Sync - Successful Sync mean:

a) a hacker has a copy of all my emails?

b) a hacker was able to see login to my full account and see setting, personal info etc?

c) all of the above?

Have I done enough to prevent that same hacker syncing again with the information they had before I updated my security information?

    Hello Janey

I'm Diane, an Office Apps & Services MVP specializing in Outlook, and I’m happy to help you today.

SMTP is sending - so apparently they only logged in to send mail, but yes, they have access to your entire mailbox if they have your password.

Enabling 2 step authentication would be better, but changing the password and alias will be enough to keep this hacker out.
