cannot import Quick Access Toolbar settings

Hi,

I reset my Quick Access Toolbar settings, then cannot import Quick Access Toolbar settings again. Either nothing happens (QAT stays default) or I get an error message that I can import one QAT customisation filen only...

There are different filenames which I guess have to do with certain views/activities like i.e. when I open a mail then the QAT looks slightly different from the main Outlook window's QAT, I exported this to, for instance.

See the screenshots.

Thanks in advance for any idea.

Regards,

Rob

    Hi De Paul,

    Thanks for the prompt response!

    1. Microsoft® Outlook® for Microsoft 365 MSO (Version 2202 Build 16.0.14931.20646) 64-bit
    2. Importing via the Options--Quick Access Toolbar--export/import button.
    3. Previous version of the files: Well if so, then Office updates that are pushed to my PC since the last exporting make it impossible to import my customisations I understand...this is more than annoying...:(

I checked the thread on Technet but it won't help - it seems that the ID change cannot be do the trick because in my files there aren't any such IDs. (<mso:tab id="mso_c1.112E3F7A")

Looks like I have to create all QAT stuff from the scratch...

In addition when I create a new set of QAT icons, save it then they appear correctly. But when I do a reset, and then try to import this brand new QAT settings file, it fails without any error message!!!

FYI I also tried to create a new profile, full (online) repair of Office - no help. SARA tool also couldn't help.

    Kind regards,

    Rob

    Dear Rob,

Good day! Thank you for posting to Microsoft Community. We are happy to help you.

Based on your description, I understand that you have a concern with “cannot import Quick Access Toolbar settings” with 'only a customization file from Microsoft Outlook (olkexplorer) can be imported'. We are looking into the issue, however before we proceed, we need more detailed information about the situation you are experiencing.

Kindly share the following information with us:

    1. Which version of Outlook are you using?
    2. How are you importing the customization files, could you please share the steps or screenshots?
    3. It seems that you are trying to use files that are older than the office/outlook version you are running. Have you tried exporting all customizations before resetting and importing the new ones?

In the meantime, This error indicates that you are trying to import a file that you exported into the incorrect item type for Outlook. Every Outlook component, including the main interface, emails, calendars, contacts, and tasks, has its own customizations file. Moreover, check the resolution steps used in this similar thread Ribbon Customization file issue (microsoft.com). Please check and let me know for further investigation.

We look forward to hearing from you. Thank you for your cooperation.

    Sincerely,

De Paul | Microsoft Community Moderator
