I am getting these errors in Outlook 2010. They just started all of a sudden. I've been using Outlook for quite a while and all of a sudden, it's not working. What can I do?

Task '___@___.___ - Sending' reported error (0x80042109) : 'Outlook cannot connect to your outgoing (SMTP) e-mail server. If you continue to receive this message, contact your server administrator or Internet service provider (ISP).'

Task '___@___.___ - Receiving' reported error (0x800CCC91) : 'Your e-mail server rejected your user name. Verify your user name for this account in Account Settings. The server responded: -ERR Command is not valid in this state.'

Task '___@___.___ - Receiving' reported error (0x800CCC92) : 'Your e-mail server rejected your login. Verify your user name and password for this account in Account Settings. The server responded: -ERR authentication failed'

As far as I know, mail.com is not Xfinity. You may be using Xfinity as your Internet provider, but you're not using them for you mail.

The correct settings for mail.com are as follows:

    Incoming (POP3) Outgoing (SMTP)
    Server pop.mail.com smtp.mail.com
    Port 995 587
Encryption SSL or encryption STARTTLS, TLS or encryption

What server name, port and encryption have you configured for both the outgoing and incoming servers?

    Brian,

    My mail provider is Xfinity.

    I'm using a POP account.

I can log into Outlook.com with the same passwords I used in Outlook.

Hi. I'm Brian and I will do my best to help you.

Who is your mail provider? What type of account (POP, IMAP) are you using? Can you log into your mailbox with a web browser using the address and password you configured for the account in Outlook?
