Microsoft authenticator on multiple devices

I have the app set up on an iPhone with a recovery account configured. I can see the backup, device name and last back date are all correct.

  1. Is it possible to set up Authenticator on another iPhone and share the backup?
  2. If yes, how does credential entry synch work? Will new entry have to be added on the primary device (where last backup was done) then it will show up on the secondary device?

Thank you

    Thanks Arif.

Based on the info you provided, I did more testing and have below observations to share:

    1. When setting up second iPhone using the same recovery account, all email account entries are populated in app but each one requires login again. Once done, both phones are in synch.
    2. A you stated, adding new entries from second phone does not get synchronized to the first device where current backup is based on.

So new entries are better added on the phone the current back up is taken from. If there are too many new entries, the better option is reinstalling the app on the second phone and re-synch. Otherwise, manual adding new entries is the only option as there is no in-app synch mechanism.

    Thank you

Greetings! My name is Arif, and I will assist you today.

If I am not mistaken, based on what I have checked, the accounts and passwords that you have backed up and synced to the account you set up with the Microsoft Authenticator app can be accessed by logging in to the same account on your other mobile phone. This will allow you to check if all your accounts and passwords have synced on your new phone. However, if you want to add new accounts to the Microsoft Authenticator, you need to set them up individually. It will not sync or back up to the same account because it is a different account. The synchronization will only apply to the account that you set up or signed in to with your Microsoft Authenticator.
