"Something went wrong" error when trying to re-create outlook account. Need assistance please.

Microsoft sent me an update in June 2023 that I believe killed my school email account. I tried to rebuild it but it failed near the end of the process. Received the "Something went wrong" error.

The school tech did not see an issue on their side. The solution they proposed was to establish another Microsoft login account on my pc and try setting up the email account. That worked!

Went back to the original account. I tried the Microsoft Support and Recovery Assistant and chose Outlook as the app having problems. I chose the "defective" account to troubleshoot. Still get the "Something went wrong" error.  See pics below for results.

Reloaded Office 365 apps. Still having the problem.

Created a new Outlook profile.  Still having the problem.

Note: the original login account registry has entries pertaining to the school email account.  There is no way I can see to delete the account using Outlook.

I have to use DUO Mobile to validate the school login but have been using that for multiple years now.

    Hello Ed L,

I’m Segunfunmi, an Independent Advisor and Microsoft user like you. Thanks for posting the query here in this forum.

I’m sorry you’re having trouble with your school email account. It seems like you’ve tried a lot of different solutions, including rebuilding the arrangement, using the Microsoft Support and Recovery Assistant, and reloading Office 365 apps. It’s good to hear that creating a new Microsoft login account on your PC and setting up the email account worked, but unfortunately, the issue persists on your original invoice.

One possible solution could be manually removing the school email account from your original login account’s registry. However, editing the registry can be risky and could potentially cause harm to your computer if not done correctly. I would recommend seeking assistance from a professional or someone with experience editing the registry before attempting this.

Another possible solution could be resetting the DUO Mobile app, as you mentioned using it to validate your school login. Try removing and re-adding your school account within the DUO Mobile app to see if that resolves the issue.

I hope these suggestions are helpful. Let me know if there’s anything else I can do to assist you.

    Kind regards, Segunfunmi.
