Error Message - won't appear in folder...

I am using a desktop PC with Win 10 Pro 22H2, AMD Ryzen 7 1700X Eight-Core Processor 3.40 GHz, 32 GB RAM, Office 2021, 3 TC HDD.

This is the error message I get when asking Outlook calendar to remind me of a date of a time.

It goes something like this: reminder won't appear in folder that doesn't support reminders.

I can't copy error message so this is the best I can recall. An aside, why is it I cannot copy the text of an error message? Some can be lengthy.

I read an existing post that says:

Try “clean reminders” switch in Outlook and check if it helps. To perform this, follow the steps:

1.       Click on Start -> All Programs.

2.       Go to Accessories -> Click on Run.

3.       Type Outlook /cleanreminders (Leave a space after Outlook) in the Run command -> Click OK.

Now check if you are getting the error message.

If it does not help, refer the following thread:
http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/office/forum/office_2010-outlook/windows-live-connector-does-it-support-reminders/2b101939-b4a2-4162-a574-070c0bd95452

I don't have any commands like Start and All Programs or Accessories. I can't locate them anywhere. Not in Outlook and I have none of them in Win 10 Pro. It's not in my Windows Accessories list, it's not in the control panel nor is it in the settings or desktop. Is this version using a different vernacular? I'm confused.

To find the main calendar, go into the inbox and create a new event - New Item > appointment. The calendar it is added to is your default for that account. It should not trigger the reminder error.

What are the names of the other calendars? If birthday or holiday calendar, you need to remove them in Outlook on the web.

If you right-click on the calendar folders, is Delete Calendar grayed out?

In the folder list - are all 3 calendars in the same data file?

To open the folder list: Ctrl+6 to open it if the buttons are on the bottom. If your Outlook navigation buttons are in a vertical bar on the left, click the bottom icon in the vertical bar and choose Folder. To switch back to the Mail pane, click the Mail button or use the keyboard shortcut Ctrl+1.

Yes I open the calendar and enter the date and time of the event. I also set the reminder which then triggers the error mentioned earlier.

So, in effect, the calendar doesn't work the way my old version of outlook. Plus to make things even more confusing, MS, in its infinite wisdom, put three calendars in the list. Why? Which one is the "main" one? When I click on one of them then go to properties the source is in the middle of the window and it shows my email address. I believe it's a folder.

Three calendars are really too much junk IMO and now I don't know which calendar comes up when I click on the calendar icon at the left top of the outlook pane. Is it different each time? Either way the effect is still the same. No reminders.

I'm sorry, the rest of what you're saying I don't understand. I've using PCs for years and I'm still having trouble with this and trying to understand your explanation.

Are you open the Calendar module to create the event? Which calendar is selected? If you have more then one visible, turn all but one off and create an event - do you get the error? Turn the other calendar on and this off - test again. Repeat until you checked each calendar you normally add events to.

When a calendar triggers the error, right click on its folder and choose Properties. The calendar path will be at the top in this format: \data file name\parent folder. If there is no parent folder, the calendar is at the same level as the inbox.

Or... you can switch to the Folder navigation pane and do the tests - you will be able to see where each calendar is stored in this list. (Ctrl+6 to open it if the buttons are on the bottom. If your Outlook navigation buttons are in a vertical bar on the left, click the bottom icon in the vertical bar and choose Folder. To switch back to the Mail pane, click the Mail button or use the keyboard shortcut Ctrl+1. )

I'm using PC only, no clouds of any kind.

When I get this error message it doesn't specify the errant folder so I would have no idea, at this point, where any calendar reminder was trying to go. It doesn't matter to me which folder the reminders will drop so long it is on my PC and Outlook and I can find it if needed. As it stands, I have no calendar reminders at all. I hope this helps to clarify my quandary.

I use the Ctrl A and Ctrl C keys all the time. I always tried to highlight the error message first then use ctrl C and V.

Nest time I will give that a try. Thank you!

Hi, I'm Diane and I'm happy to help you today.

That thread and instructions apply to older versions of Outlook (and windows) using the now-defunct Outlook connector. Clean reminders won't fix this error - it's related to the folder properties.

What calendar folder are you trying to add the event to?

I've seen this error in iCloud calendars. iCloud will (or should) add a reminder and the error is basically just an annoyance.

If you are seeing this in iCloud, are you using 14.* from the Microsoft store or the older download from apple?

I can't copy error message so this is the best I can recall. An aside, why is it I cannot copy the text of an error message? Some can be lengthy. << You recalled enough for me to know which error it is. :)

Some dialogs can be copied even if you can't select the text with the mouse - click on the dialog then Ctrl+A (you won't see anything happen - and select all might not be necessary but I do it out of habit) the Ctrl+C to copy - then try pasting it in notepad or a message.

If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask.
