Using classic Outlook for Windows in business environments
Hi Vincent, my name is Neil, and I'm an Outlook user like you.
I'll be happy to answer your question.
Before adding your gmail account to Outlook, have you enabled IMAP (preferred) or POP in your Gmail settings?
To do this, go online and sign into your gmail account.
Click the "Settings" cog in the top right of the window and then click on "See all settings".
Click the "Forwarding and POP/IMAP" tab.
On this settings page, make sure POP or IMAP is Enabled by selecting the appropriate option and then click the "Save changes" button at the bottom of the page.
If you do not have two factor authentication setup on your Google Account, then you should now be able to add your gmail account to Outlook using your gmail email address and password.
If you use two factor authentication for your Google account, an extra step will be necessary for you to add your gmail account to Outlook. If you use two factor authentication, you need to generate an App-specific password to use with Outlook that is different than your main Google password.
To do this, click your Google Profile Icon at the top right of the page and then click on "Manage your Google Account".
Click the "Security" link.
Click on the "App passwords" option under 'Signing into Google'.
Click the dropdown menus under Select the app and device you want to generate the app password for. Click and select "Mail" and "Windows Computer", then click the "Generate" button.
Now leave that window open for now and go back to Outlook and try and add your google account. Simply type your gmail email address when asked and then click "Next" and when it comes to the password field, go back to the Google window you left open and copy the app password, then paste it into the Password field in Outlook and click "Connect".
Click the "Done" button. Underneath the done button there is an option to setup your account on your mobile. If you do not want to do this now, uncheck the box before clicking the done button.
I hope this helps.
Kindest regards,
Neil
