Sorting outlook by date not functioning

Searching for an email in outlook via web browser Chrome. Results come up, but sorted seemingly at random, and can't sort by date! Results mix emails separated by months, including those totally irrelevant to my search. Clicking on the date, or filter, do nothing. This is basic functionality. What's the solution here?

I have seen similar questions on this support site going back at least to 2017. Mindboggling.

    Based on your description, I know the issue you met. To better help you, I did a test for you. Here is the result about my test result. About the first three results in Top results, they are not sorted by time. But the results in All results are sorted by time. So first, please be kindly to check whether the first three shot show by time. If so, it is normal scenario, you can disable it in settings.

    If all the results are at random, please be kindly to try to clear cache and cookies of your Chrome and then log in your account and check the result. If the issue persists, please be kindly to change a browser to check if you will meet the same problem with other browsers.
