Way to adjust default zoom in reading and new message panes (they currently differ by ~1.4 x)? [Outlook for Mac]

I'm using Outlook for Mac v.16.63, Legacy View, on a 2019 27" 5k iMac running MacOS Monterey v. 12.4 (these are all the latest software versions as of the date of this post).

I have two related questions about adjusting the zoom (magnification) of what I'm reading.

Suppose I'm reading a message in the reading pane, and then decide to reply to it, which creates a new message pane. The default magnification of text in the reading pane is 1.4 x larger in the reading pane than it is in the new message pane. See the screenshot below. On the left it shows how the font is displayed by default when I'm reading an incoming message, and on the right how it is displayed by default when I reply to that message:

To get them to display at the same size, I need to zoom the new message pane by about 140%:

Let me emphasize that what I'm referring to here is simply the magnification (zoom) with which the messages are displayed. I'm not referring to the font, which is Calibri 11 for both. I don't want to mess with the font size, just the zoom.

So here are my questions:

  1. Why does Outlook use a different default magnification for text in the reading pane vs. the new message composition pane? [As I mention above I'm using Legacy View, but I also see this same discrepancy in New Outlook.]
  2. One can adjust the zoom in the reading pane using CMD +/–. And one can adjust the zoom in the new message pane, either using the menu (as seen in the screenshots), or holding down CTRL while moving the mouse scroll wheel. But is there a way to change the default zoom for each of these?

I'm using Legacy View, but I'm afraid your answer is completely unrelated to my question—my question has nothing to do with whether you can pop out a separate reading pane.

In fact, it's so unrelated that I'm wondering if you were in the process of replying to someone else's question, and accidentally replied to my question instead.

    Dear Byte99,

Good day! Thank you for posting to Microsoft Community. We are happy to help you!

Are you using the classic version or are you enabled for the new version? The classic version does not have a pop-up button (because it does not support composing in the reading pane)

When you hover over the edges (any edge or corner), the mouse pointer should change and you can drag. Or maximize the window by clicking on the green dot.

If you still have more problem, for using Outlook for Mac, as we have a dedicated support team for it, which is specializing in handling issues related to Outlook for Mac. Therefore, we recommend you that for further assistance please go to Outlook for Mac support.

Your contribution will help more and more users in the community! Hope you all the best!

    Sincerely,
