Hi guy's,

I am having a strange issue with OneDrive folder redirection, we have a policy that redirect the document folders of users to Onedrive, this policy has works in past and users documents get redirected to the OneDrive.
since one a week go when we apply this policy to a user we can see that folder document get redirected to the Onedrive, but problem is, only folders get redirected to the Onedirve and files dont move to the onedrive.

Any idea why after policy get applied only folders from local document map get synced and not the files in those folders?

Thanks

    @Shahin Mortazave

we have a policy that redirect the document folders of users to Onedrive

Could you please tell us which Group Policy did you apply to users? Is it "[Silently move Windows known folders to OneDrive][1]"?

        - If yes, please right click OneDrive icon on task bar, go to Settings > About, ensure the version number is later than 18.171.0823.0001.
        - Then check the [OneDrive icon][2], any error message you may share with us.
        - I also suggest you [reset OneDrive][3] client to have a look.

Currently, please check whether a new saved file from Documents folder would be automatically saved on OneDrive?

        - If yes, I suggest you backup files in this Documents folder first, then use Backup function to sync these file to OneDrive.
          ![111723-image.png][4]
If the issue still exists, you may refer to “[Restrictions and limitations in OneDrive and SharePoint][5]”, make sure these files are not restricted from syncing to OneDrive.

        - If not, have this user had the Documents folder redirected to other location such as a network shared folder via GPO before?
          - You may refer to "[Transition from the Windows Folder Redirection Group Policy objects][6]".
          - Besides, check whether following article is helpful.
[Your IT administrator has set a policy that prevents changes to known folders. Please remove this policy and try again][7]. Any updates, you may post back.

Hi @Emily Hua-MSFT Thank you for your reply,
We did not setup the OneDrive Folder redirection with registry settings but with group policy and used this link as our guide:
    https://4sysops.com/archives/known-folder-move-part-2-group-policy-settings/

The policy did work for sometimes, I check the version of the Onedrive and it is version: 21.19
Yes user was first in a policy that had a folder redirection to a network share, we always remove the user from the policy the had folder redirection to network and add the user and his PC to the policy that has only OneDrive folder redirection and this did work until last week.

I also removed the folder Document and its empty sub folders for this user Onedrive and each time the user logged in all folders in his document folders get synced to his Onedrive but all the folders are empty. I create a file in the windows explorer under OneDrive I can see that get synced. It looks like that Onedrive cannot not copy the files!! normally I should see the sync process of the files, but now I can see only the amount of folders that OneDrive want to sync!!

There is also no errors, and see a check mark that onedrive is in sync!!

    Any suggestions?

Hi @Emily Hua-MSFT thanks for your replay,
I have already reset, remove reinstall Onedrive for my test user, but still the same issue.
I did remove all the folders except one folder that has only txt files, again the folder and its subfolders get sync but the txt files dont sync.
What I dont understand is the document folder of the user still point the network share, I did run the gpresult /r when test user is logged in and I can see that user is not in the policy that has folder redirection to the network share and only Onedeive policy applied to this user, but still can see folder document point to the network share.
In pastwe had to reboot the user PC 3 or 4 times and then one drive would create a folder in user Onedrive and after files will automatically sync to the onedirve the user document folder wouldn't point anymore to the network share

    Any suggestion?

    Just an update,

When remove the user profile from the local PC and also remove the users's Roaming profile from server and login to the PC, I can see that OneDrive Policy works and document of the user pointing to the Onedrive, but I have to copy the users document again manually to the onedrive.

Until week ago we did not have to do this, Just put the user in the right policy, remove the user from previous folder redirection policy , 2 or 3 times login and eventually all the the files in the users documents ( from pervious folder redirection) to the Onedrive.

I also find out that when only folders get synced ( without their contents) to onedrive the icon of Documents is looks like a ordinary folder but this should looks like the icon of the Document.

Does Microsoft again has changed something that this wont work?

    Thanks
