Outlook desktop for Mac changes font when adding SharePoint links

  • On macOS Sonoma v14.3
  • Using Outlook 16.81.2

I use Verdana when composing email messages. When I hyperlink text with a SharePoint site URL, Outlook automatically changes the font to Aptos (Body). The URL is in this formulation: https://example-name-here.sharepoint.com/sites/example-name-here/SitePages/Home.aspx

Screenshots below.

I tried to find a way to set a style for hyperlinks in Outlook (as with Word document styles), but there appears to be no option for that.

Please advise.

Hi again - so I managed to get this to reset my defaults (this fully reset all of my Outlook settings but weirdly kept my predefined font settings in place...though it didn't make a difference to what happens when i add a link. One thing i did notice is that it brings up the clipboard again but there is no way in settings to change the default behaviour for when you paste a link in.

Perhaps this would be an easier setting to add in to the Settings panel?

I would say that most people who paste links into their emails a lot (probably most people on Sharepoint these days do that A LOT!) would be grateful to keep their company-approved font as the default and having to click the clipboard that appears each time - to then have to choose "Match Destination Formatting" (as the "use destination styles" it is going to as default isn't correct/working properly, as seen in the pic) is rather arduous when you have to do it c.20+ times a day.

Thanks and here's to a fix soon :)

Hello - I also have this issue and it is kinda annoying that this isn't set as an option in the Fonts/Stationery settings on Outlook for Mac like it is on a PC. Is there plans to add this option, do you know?

Also, I tried the above in Terminal but then got a bunch of stuff I didn't understand. Could be that we have enterprise control and so it might not have activated. Can you please let me know what sort of message I should receive after running that Terminal script to see if it compares, please?

    Dear JROv22,

Good morning! Thank you for posting in the Microsoft Community. We will be happy to help you.

Based on your description, I understand that you are experiencing an issue with the font changing when adding SharePoint links in Outlook for Mac.

This issue may be caused by the default font settings in Outlook. To resolve this issue, you can try changing the default font settings in Outlook. Here are the steps:

Open Outlook for Mac > Click on "Outlook" in the top menu bar and select "Preferences/setting" > Click on "Fonts" > Under "When composing and replying", select "Verdana" as the font > Click on "OK" to save the changes.

If the issue persists, you can try resetting the font settings in Outlook. Here are the steps:

    1. Close Outlook for Mac.
    2. Open the "Terminal" application.
    3. Type the following command and press Enter: defaults delete com.microsoft.Outlook
    4. Open Outlook for Mac and check if the issue is resolved.

I hope this helps. Let me know if you have any further questions or concerns. I will be happy to assist you further.
