Using Classic Outlook on Windows for personal email, calendar, and contact management
But why would it apply a random sort on the dates, it just doesn't make sense? There isn't any logic to that.

Hello,
I have recently come across a problem that I can't seem to figure out a solution for. The short of it is for a given mailbox, I would like to be able to sort by last name/from and then ascending/descending date received.
I am on outlook on my desktop I believe its part of office 365 but not through a web browser. Right now my outlook can only do one of those things at a time. If I sort by last name on an individual (lets say last name Smith) the first message will not be the oldest or the newest, and then as I go through the messages that Smith sent me they are not in an order that makes sense. The date formatting is for (WED 2/14/2024 1:30 PM). Outlook isn't sorting on the month either because in an example Smith's first emails are from 6/30/2023, and then it goes to 1/17/2024. I get daily emails from Smith in this scenario and have been for years.
I have tried to create a custom view with sort by "From" and then "Received" but even that isn't sorting correctly by the date. It is very frustrating.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks,
Carl
