Outlook bounce back

Hi there,

I have got an email bounce back issue in Outlook which started out of the blue yesterday 25/10/2023

It says Outlook 2016 and the error appears to be related to "message lines too long for transport"

I have already checked the automatic wrap setting and it was already at 76, and I understand the standard remedy is to go in and set this between 60 and 76. I've never had an issue before and have never altered this setting.

Is this a bug in Outlook?

Appearances can be deceiving. Would you please post the entire error message, word for word, just as it appears to you so we can have a look at it, please? The devil likes to hide in the details and fine print. Thanks!

    Dear Sam,

Good day! Thank you for posting to Microsoft Community. We are happy to assist you.

Based on your description, you're experiencing an issue with email bounce back in Outlook.

The error message you're seeing is related to the length of the message lines being too long for transport. This can happen if the email message contains lines that are longer than the maximum allowed by the email server.

To resolve this issue, you can try the following steps:

    1. Open the email message that is causing the bounce back.
    2. Check if there are any long lines of text in the message. If there are, try to break them up into shorter lines.
    3. If the issue persists, try reducing the automatic wrap setting to a lower value, such as 60.

If none of the above steps work, would you please share me some more detailed information so that I can check further:

    1. Will you please share me your Outlook version details? Please follow this article What version of Outlook do I have? - Microsoft Support and follow the steps to check.
    2. Are you using Microsoft365 account or personal account (whichis ended with outlook.com or hotmail.com) or some other 3rd party pop/imap account?

Regarding your question about whether this is a bug in Outlook, it's difficult to say without more information. However, it's possible that the issue could be related to a recent update or configuration change. If you continue to experience issues, you may want to check for any available updates for Outlook and ensure that your settings are configured correctly.

At the same time, I will try to collect information about this issue in community, if there are many users report the issue, I will report this to Outlook product team to find a fix.

If there is any update or I misunderstand you, please feel free to let me know. I will continue to assist you. Your understanding and co-operation are highly appreciated.

Thanks for your precious time. Have a nice day.

    Sincerely,

    Sherry | Microsoft Community Moderator
