On the other hand, since this issue occurred recently, system restore is a good way to recover previous desktop folder state.
Finally, there is a registry way to change the location of desktop folder, note backup your registry before using this way:
Click your Start Button, type regedit and hit Enter to open the Registry Editor
Navigate to this Key:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\User Shell Folders
On the right hand side, double click Desktop
Set its value to: %USERPROFILE%\Desktop
Save and close the Registry Editor
Restart your PC
The Desktop library folder will now be back in its original location
You may have to copy some files from your E Drive back into the Desktop folder
