New email address error message

Hi there. Every time I try to enter a new email address into the 'send to' field, I get an error message saying 'We couldn't find the person you were looking for'. If I have sent an email to an address previously this message does not come up - only to email addresses I have not sent to before. Can you please tell me why this is happening and how to fix it?

    Hello Jodi HH!

Thank you for posting in Microsoft Community.

I can see you have troubles sending email to a new email address. Let me do my best to help, for now let me ask few more questions to get a better picture of what's happening.

    • May I know how do you access your emails? is it on Browser or outlook application?
    • May I know what's the office version and edition if you are using outlook app?
    • is this happening to a specific email address?

While waiting, I believe you may be experiencing an issue with the autocomplete feature in Outlook. This feature suggests email addresses as you type them based on your previous email history.

To fix this issue, you can try clearing your autocomplete cache. Here's how:

    1. Open a new email message.
    2. Start typing the email address that is causing the error message to appear.
    3. When the incorrect email address appears in the autocomplete list, use the arrow keys on your keyboard to highlight it.
    4. Press the Delete key on your keyboard to remove the email address from the autocomplete list.
    5. Repeat steps 2-4 for any other email addresses that are causing the error message to appear.

Once you have cleared your autocomplete cache, try entering the email address again and see if the error message still appears. If it does, please let me know and we can explore other solutions.

Alternatively you can also do the following:

    1. Check the spelling of the email address to ensure that it is correct.
    2. Add the email address to your contact list by clicking on the People icon at the bottom left of the Outlook window and then clicking on New Contact. Enter the email address and any other relevant information and then click Save.
    3. If the email address is already in your contact list, try typing the first few letters of the email address in the To field and then selecting the address from the list of suggested contacts that appears.

Hope this helps! Let me know so I can help more!
