Hi,

I created a new outlook email adress and I wanted to add it to my existing microsoft account as an alias. I go to the "Add an existing email address as a Microsoft account alias" option and type in the new created outlook adress and it says following: "This email address is already taken. Please try another."

Is this working as intended?

Would appreciate any help.

Best regards.

Im in the same situation of having to change email addresses. All I wish to do is use my current outlook address as the alias. The process you describe seems totally crazy.

    Hi Raymond,

that's quite a restricted system I guess. The problem I have with the address, which is my main account is, that I don't want to use it anymore. Because of the email provider.
Is there an option where I can transfer all my stuff on my main account to the new created one?
Mainly the 365 subscription and my Windows license.

And after the transfer I would be able to delete the main account, right?

    Would appreciate your help!

    Hello Dave_724,

    Welcome to Microsoft Community.

I am a Microsoft user just like you, I hope you are doing well.

Sorry for this inconvenience. However, if you create a Microsoft account, it becomes reserved and cannot be used as an alias.

According to Microsoft, existing Hotmail, Live, Outlook.com, and MSN addresses can't be added as aliases, and you can't add an alias that is already associated with another Microsoft account.

To add Microsoft Hotmail, Live, Outlook.com, and MSN addresses as an alias, you need to create the account from alias:

    1. Go to https://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/p/?linkid=864833. Sign in to your Microsoft account, if prompted.
    2. Under Add an alias, create a new Outlook.com email address and add it as an alias.
    3. Select Add alias.

Dave_724, you can manually transfer Microsoft 365 Family or Personal subscription from one Microsoft account to another.

The specific actions to do this transfer manually will depend on your situation, but it will involve purchasing a new Microsoft 365 subscription and then cancelling your existing one.

You may not be able to transfer your Windows license.
