Outlook not working.

Thank you for your response.

As mentioned I’m able to send but not receive emails through Outlook. This is an AT&T email I’ve had for 20 years. This email address works on the AT&T Yahoo server and on my iphone. I’m able to also use two other non-AT&T emails through Outlook. Last week working with AT&T, I entered a new secure mail key password I placed in Outlook for this address. I am using my personal password for this email address on my iphone. This mail key password is not however my real password. AT&T agents said it is an Outlook issue.

Here is the error information Outlook is providing: Task 'email address", Receiving reported error (ox80042110) : 'YourPOP3 server is providing inconsistent information. The number of items returned by the UIDL or LIST commands. Contact your POP3 or Internet service provider.

Thank you,

Bruce

Hi Bruce Greetings! Thank you for posting on Microsoft Community. I will be happy to help. I am a user just like you and only trying to advice/ assist in the best possible way to resolve your issue.

This sounds like a configuration issue between your AT&T email, Outlook, and the new secure mail key. Let's troubleshoot:

    Understanding the Secure Mail Key

Purpose: AT&T's secure mail key is designed for 3rd-party email clients like Outlook to access your email securely. It acts as a replacement for your regular password when setting up the account in Outlook. Not Your Web Mail Password: It's crucial to understand that the secure mail key is NOT the password you use on the AT&T Yahoo webmail site or your iPhone.

Troubleshooting Steps Delete & Re-Add Account with Secure Mail Key: Since it worked previously, this is worth trying first. Remove your AT&T email account completely from Outlook. Then, re-add it, carefully ensuring you input the secure mail key (not your actual password) in the password field.

Double-Check POP3 Server Settings: While adding the account, you'll enter POP3 server information. Verify those settings with AT&T or their online help docs. Here's what usually works for AT&T POP3:

Incoming server: inbound.att.net Port: 995 Encryption: SSL/TLS Temporarily Disable Antivirus/Firewall: Security software could sometimes interfere with mail protocols. Test by temporarily disabling these while you set up Outlook with the AT&T account.

    If Problems Persist:

Contact AT&T Again: Given their agent suggested an Outlook problem, be firm. Explain you've followed their recommendations using the secure mail key; it is NOT working within Outlook specifically, though it functions elsewhere. Ask them to look deeper or escalate the issue.

Additional Notes: Outlook Sync Options: Once things work, review sync settings within Outlook for the AT&T account (e.g., how many days old emails it should download).

Hope this helps and answer your question. Let me know if you need further clarification or assistance. Give back to the Community. Help the next person who has this issue by indicating if this reply solved your problem. Click Yes or No below. Kind Regards -Adedayo
