The message was successfully recalled but was read by the recipient

I sent an email with the wrong pdf attachment to someone in my organization. I was wondering if the email will have been deleted from their inbox despite them having read it? I keep seeing contradictory information on this. As far as I am aware, we are using the cloud-based microsoft system and I sent the email using my org email to their org email. Is my email successfully deleted from their inbox or not?

    Dear RebecPFca,

Good day! Thank you for posting to Microsoft Community. We are happy to assist you.

If the recipient of your email has already read it before you recalled it, the email will not be deleted from their inbox. However, they will receive a notification that you have requested to recall the message.

This is because email recall is not a guaranteed process. It relies on the recipient's email client supporting message recall and the recipient not having already read the message before the recall is processed.

The fact that you are using a cloud-based Microsoft system and sent the email using your org email to their org email does not affect the outcome of the recall.

If you are concerned that the recipient has still access to the email, you can try contacting them directly and asking them to delete it. You can also try to send them a replacement message with the correct attachment.

Thank you for your precious time. Have a nice day.

    Regards,

    Microsoft Community
