how many people can join a teams meeting?

The maximum at the moment is 250 of people in one Teams meeting. This goes regardless of application (web or desktop) or whether the attendees are guests or users.
Actually, the limit is 1000 as detailed here: https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/microsoftteams/limits-specifications-teams#meetings-and-calls
Up to 20000 users can join in a view-only experience, if needed.

I am confused. Is the 1000 limit only for Government and Department of Defense? What is the limit for business subscribers?
In the link you provided: "1000, includes GCC, GCCH, and DoD, but not A1 (300)."
Please clarify if you can.
