I just added a new email and want to make it my primary, but I just get the error: "We have a limit on how often you can change your primary alias. Try again next week." Even though I've never changed it.

    Dear Indygowithay

    Thank you for posting in the Microsoft Community.

    I understand that you may be experiencing an issue where you are unable to change your account alias, I know this is troubling for you and I apologize for the inconvenience.

    Since you can change your alias up to two times per week, for this, we recommend that you start counting from the day you last changed your alias and try again after 7 days to see if this resolves the situation.

    If you are still unable to add an alias after 7 days, we would like to explain that you can create a maximum of 10 aliases per account, and if your account has reached the maximum number of aliases you can add, you will not be able to add a new alias even after 365 days from the date you last added an alias, so we recommend that you do not add aliases too often.

    For more information about aliases, please refer to this link for more details: Change the email address or phone number for your Microsoft account - Microsoft Support

    In the meantime, we cannot rule out the possibility that your browser has a corrupted cache, cookies, and browsing history, and we recommend that you try clearing your browser's cache, cookies, and browsing history. We recommend that you try to clear your browser's cache, cookies, and browsing history)

    • Internet Explorer: Press CTRL+SHIFT+DEL at the same time and tap Delete;
    • Microsoft Edge: Click Edge browser interface, the upper right corner of the [...], select [Settings], [Clear]. , select [Settings], [Clear Browser Data], you can in the option, select the records you want to clear (at present Edge does not have a shortcut key that can be cleared).
    • Google Chrome: Press CTRL+SHIFT+DEL at the same time, tap Clear Browsing Data.
    • Firefox: press CTRL+SHIFT+DEL at the same time and click Clear Now.

    After completing the above operations, please try to add the alias again by logging in to your account using Internet Explorer (you can visit this page to download the latest version:Internet Explorer Downloads - Microsoft Support ) or Microsoft Edge (the built-in browser of Windows 10) to see if the situation remains the same.

    Note: We recommend that you use the latest version of your browser, otherwise some features may not be available or may not display correctly.

    If you still get the message “We've limited the number of times you can change your primary alias, please try again next week”, we suggest you wait a few days and try again.

    Thank you for your patience and understanding.

    I hope the above steps can help you, if you do not understand or any questions, look forward to your reply.

    May you be well
